Hardwood Floor Refinishing & Repair in Cincinnati

Worn, scratched or hidden under carpet, your hardwood can look new again. Our dustless floor sanding keeps your home clean while we repair, recoat or fully refinish your floors.

As the trend toward restoring older homes continues, more and more homeowners are refinishing their hardwood floors. Hardwood provides years of low-maintenance beauty, it's relatively affordable to restore, and refinished floors raise a property's value.

Repair, recoat or refinish?

Choosing the right hardwood floor restoration

Not every worn floor needs a full sanding. Try this quick test in a high-traffic area: pour a tablespoon or two of water on the floor. If it beads up, your finish is doing its job. If it soaks in slowly and darkens the wood slightly, the finish is partially worn. If it disappears into the wood right away and leaves a dark spot, it's probably time to recoat or refinish. Hardwood floor repair

Damaged or worn areas of your hardwood floor are repaired so the floor can be finished as one consistent surface. We'll look at the damage during your free estimate.

Recoat

When the finish is worn but the wood itself is in good shape, a recoat refreshes the protective finish without a full sanding.

Full refinish

For deep wear, scratches or a new stain color, we remove the old finish with dustless sanding, stain and apply three coats of polyurethane.

Our refinishing process

Three steps to floors that look brand new

1

Remove carpet (if applicable)

We scrape bonded pads from carpet by hand with a putty knife, taking care to follow the grain of the wood and not gouge the surface. A chemical solvent speeds the process, and we pull every leftover carpet staple with needle-nose pliers.

Dustless floor sanding

Our dustless sanding process keeps dust to a minimum as we prepare your floors for stain. We start with the coarsest grit and make three passes, using a finer grit each time, moving with the grain and keeping the sander at a steady pace to avoid uneven patches. Corners and areas the machine can't reach are sanded by hand using the same coarse-to-fine progression. After three full sandings, your floors are ready for stain.

Stain & finish

Once you've chosen a stain, we apply it evenly in a circular motion to avoid color inconsistencies, repeating if needed until the color is exactly what you want. Next we buff and use a tack cloth to clear away dust and debris before the first coat of polyurethane, applied with a mop-style applicator for a smooth, even film. After the recommended drying time, we repeat the process twice more, for three coats of polyurethane in all.

After we finish: wait two to three days before using the room, and at least a week before putting down area rugs, or they may stick to the new finish.
